This day has long been anticipated by Dallas Mavericks supporters, and on Tuesday, November 11, those who have been screaming " Fire Nico," hoping to send the team's general manager to the unemployment queue, will finally have something to celebrate.
In the closing minutes of the Dallas Mavericks' October 24 home loss to the terrible Washington Wizards, the chant that had become so achingly familiar in the American Airlines Centre since that startling night in early February erupted once more.
Nico Harrison dismissed as Dallas Mavericks GM after turbulent post-Luka Doncic era and disappointing season start
Nine months after dealing top player Luka Doncic , Nico Harrison, the general manager of the Dallas Mavericks, was fired on Tuesday despite a dismal start to the season. Since Doncic was unexpectedly traded to the Los Angeles Lakers in February for Anthony Davis, Max Christie, and a 2029 first-round selection, Harrison has been under fire.

"Fire Nico! Fire Nico! Fire Nico!"
Ever since general manager Nico Harrison traded Luka Doncic to the Los Angeles Lakers early on February 2, Mavericks supporters had been demanding that Harrison be fired. A day following the team's defeat to the Milwaukee Bucks, he was also fired.
Following Dallas' 3-8 start to the 2025–26 season, which is next to last in the Western Conference, the Mavericks sacked Harrison after he had led the franchise for more than four years. The Mavericks had the lowest scoring average and three-point field goal percentage in the NBA , with guard Kyrie Irving and forward Anthony Davis now sidelined due to injuries.
Since All-NBA guard Luka Doncic was traded to the Los Angeles Lakers on February 2, Harrison's job security had been precarious. Harrison's hot seat persisted even after Dallas exceeded all expectations by winning the NBA Draft Lottery and choosing Duke star forward Cooper Flagg with the first pick.
In a public statement, Mavs owner Patrick Dumont acknowledged the team's difficult start and called Harrison's dismissal "critical" to the team's "positive direction."
“No one associated with the Mavericks organization is happy with the start of what we all believed would be a promising season,” Dumont said. “You have high expectations for the Mavericks, and I share them with you. When the results don’t meet expectations, it’s my responsibility to act.”
The Mavericks announced that they will start a thorough search for a permanent replacement, but assistant general managers Michael Finley and Matt Riccardi have been appointed co-interim general managers to oversee basketball operations.
