I love this time of year because it means you have even more excuses to stay in and binge-watch your way through that ever-growing watchlist. For me, there is a new LA show on the horizon that I am very excited about, and a series that was released more than five years ago, which I plan to finally get to, as well as a classic American drama that feels appropriate to fill the long nights. What will you be watching during these cold winter evenings? There are lots of series that I have my eye on, but here are the next three series I plan to watch first.
This is exactly my type of TV series and the cast lineup looks incredible. Set to be released this weekend, I Love LA is an upcoming American comedy television series created, written by, and starring Rachel Sennott for HBO. Its supporting cast consists of Odessa A'zion, Jordan Firstman, True Whitaker, and Josh Hutcherson. The series synopsis reads: "A tight-knit friend group gathers after years apart, navigating the complexities of ambition, relationships, and how time has changed them."
The Queen's GambitI don't know why I passed on this when it first came out but I have finally come to my senses and decided to give it a go. The Queen's Gambit is a 2020 coming-of-age period drama television miniseries based on the 1983 novel by Walter Tevis. The series was written and directed by Scott Frank, who created it with Allan Scott, who also owns the rights to the book. Anya Taylor-Joy plays a chess prodigy on her rise to the top but not without her own issues. The synopsis for the series states: "The Queen's Gambit is about a fictional chess prodigy named Beth Harmon who, after being orphaned in the 1950s, rises through the ranks of the male-dominated chess world while struggling with addiction to drugs and alcohol. Set in the Cold War era, it follows her journey to becoming the world's greatest player, exploring themes of abandonment, genius, and overcoming personal struggles."
This for me is one of the classic teen dramas that I never got round to watching, my sister recommended it to me, and I think it should provide some light relief throughout the depths of November. There are not really too many shows around like this anymore, especially not with this many episodes, so it'll be a bit of a challenge for me, but one I feel everyone should complete at some point. The O.C. is an American teen drama television series created by Josh Schwartz, who would later go on to create Gossip Girl. The series title, "O.C.", is an initialism of Orange County, the location in Southern California in which the series is set. The synopsis reads: "The young adult community of the Orange County lies in a world of shifting loyalties and intrigues when a troubled youth gets involved in the lives of an upper-class group."
